About Yurika Chiba

Yurika Chiba grew up in Toronto and recently returned after 20 years in artistic leadership with San Jose Taiko, an organization with more than 50 years of internationally recognized taiko history.

Yurika is a seasoned performer, composer, choreographer, and instructor for taiko players of all ages, experiences, and abilities. With a background in psychology, she encourages ongoing exploration and sees taiko as a space where healing, tension, learning, and expression can exist at the same time.

Yurika was one of 18 international taiko artists featured in the documentary Finding Her Beat. She has also been a regular guest instructor and panelist at numerous conferences and gatherings, including the North American Taiko Conference, Connect, Women & Taiko, and the Toronto Taiko Festival.

Her work brings together performance, education, movement, rhythm, community, creativity, and reflection.
